Recently, I created a book cover illustration for an e-book that contains three short stories.  I also did some pen & ink illustrations that I’d hoped could have been put inside to illustrate each story – but according to the author, the file size then became too large.  Oh well.

Though the project ended up going awry as it does on occasion – I’ll leave the gory details out (pun intended) – I’m still happy with the concepts I came up with. And yes, I think my ideas are more successful than what they ended up using. But alas, such is the life of a designer, no?

Finally, after having the same design up for about 2 years I’ve made the time to redesign my website. I think it needed a bit of freshening up. I also redesigned my logo.

SheMakesArt new home page design.

A gouache illustration that started out as a sketch in my sketchbook for Hamlet.  I love the fitted burgundy blazer with the jodhpur-inspired trousers.

Talking Tree Costume Sketch

I wanted to sketch out my intrepretation of what I think one of the talking trees from “Wizard of Oz” would look like.

It’s funny that people are so surprised that I don’t like the film but we did the play in my school when I was in kindergarten.  My brother actually played a talking tree, so I always thought it was “cool.”

Faire de l’art.  :m

So, yesterday a very good friend of mine, and coincidentally, the one I’ve known the longest, Dave (www.davepunk.com/design/), gave me yet another swift kick to the tush. This time, to begin blogging about the projects that I’m working on especially now that I’ve made the time to sketch & write on a regular basis.

It’s been quite wonderful to sketch & write regularly. I do both on the train. iPod planted tightly into my ears. Ella Fitzgerald, Interpol, The Blue Nile & Jack Penate providing musical inspiration. Terribly good for the soul.

To my friends who have lost their way, grab a sketchbook, notebook or that piece of scratch paper next to you and jot down your thoughts.. an image from your muddled mind.. or a random idea that’s currently chewing away at you. You will begin to again find your way. I know I did.

Feel free to openly comment on works posted.
